Salah Named African Player of the Year

Liverpool and Egyptian playmaker Mohamed Salah etched his name into football history after being crowned African Player of the Year 2017.
In the female category, Nigerian Asisat Oshoala, who now plays for the Chinese side Dalian Quanjian F.C. was crowned Africa’s best.
Salah fended off opposition from club-mate Sadio Mane of Senegal and Gabonese Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, winner in 2015, to pick the topmost prize at the Aiteo CAF Awards Gala 2017, held on Thursday, 4 January 2018, at the International Conference Centre in Accra, Ghana.
He thus became the first Egyptian to win the most prestigious individual honour in African football.
He polled 625 points, against 507 from Mane whilst Aubameyang finished a distant third with 311 points.
The feat capped a superb year for the forward who played an influential role for both club and country during the year under review.
Salah’s feat was the climax of a memorable evening for Egyptian football which saw the Pharaohs being named National Team of the Year and Argentina-born trainer, Hector Cuper, Coach of the Year.
Nigerian Asisat Oshoala was adjudged Women’s Player of the Year for the third time, after 2014 and 2016. She beat Cameroonian Gabrielle Aboudi Onguene and Chrestina Kgatlana of South Africa to the top prize.
However, Kgatlana took consolation in Banyana Banyana being named Women’s National Team of the Year.
Patson Daka ensured Zambia was represented on the podium with the Youth Player of the Year, ten years after compatriot Clifford Mulenga was decorated Most Promising Talent of the Year.

Samuel Peter Celebrates 37th Birthday.

Samuel Okon Peter (born September 6, 1980) is a Nigerian-American professional boxer who held the WBC heavyweight title in 2008. He rose to prominence in his early career following a string of knockout wins, at a time when the titles of the heavyweight division were largely fragmented.

In March 2008, Peter won a portion of the world heavyweight championship by knocking out Oleg Maskaev to win the WBC title. In October, in what would be his only defense of the title, Peter lost to a returning Vitali Klitschko, who stopped him in eight rounds. Peter is known for his rivalry with the Klitschko brothers, having faced Wladimir twice (in 2005 and 2010) and Vitali once.
 Happy Birthday Samuel Peter!

Fans Begged Messi Not To Quit National Team

Messi shocked Argentina and the whole world with his unexpected resignation after Chile defeated Argentina 4-2 on penalties after a 0-0 draw on Sunday.

Apart from the humiliation of being beaten on penalties for a second time by their neighbours, they were gutted at the news of what online wags were calling “LeoMexit” – Messi’s announced retirement from international service.

Argentine Team arrived home on Monday with dozens of emotional fans wearing the white and sky-blue striped jerseys of the national team, adorned with Messi's number 10, waiting in the rain for the team to arrive back from the tournament in the United States.

Some followed the team bus along the road leading from the airport to the Argentine Football Association complex. They waved flags, chanted, "Messi is not leaving!" and carried banners. One of them read: "Messi: I love you more than I love my mom."

Although Messi could not be seen on the bus, AFA spokesman Ernesto Cherquis Bialo confirmed to The Associated Press that he had arrived in Buenos Aires with the rest of the team.

Some fans, players, and even Argentina's president and the country's greatest player Diego Maradona asked Messi to reconsider. Other supporters on Monday were simply sad that one of the all-time greats is departing the national team prematurely.
