All preparations by Christians and Muslims in Lagos to resume
worship at their various worship centres has been quashed as Lagos State
Government announced an indefinite suspension of the planned reopening of mosques
and churches on Friday, June 19 and Sunday, June 21 respectively.
This was disclosed by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide
Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday, June 16, during a press briefing at Alausa Ikeja.
The governor explained that this is as a result of the rising
cases of the coronavirus pandemic in the state which has been the epicentre of
the virus in the country.
The governor had on Thursday, June 4 asked mosques to reopen
from June 19, adding that churches can begin services from June 21.
This will come as a disappointment to many worshippers who
had braced themselves for the reopening of their places of worship but the
decisions seem inevitable owing to the rising cases of Covid-19 in Lagos
State.
Ought Government not to have cancelled the proposed
reopening, let’s hear your view about this development.
